The Golden Key: Mastering The myki

Before you even think about stepping onto a platform, you need to know about myki. It’s the reusable smart card that unlocks trains, trams, and buses across Victoria. You literally cannot travel without it (unless you want to risk a fine that costs more than your weekly grocery budget - and we know you don’t).

How It Works

It’s simple: you top it up with money, and you tap it on the reader.

  • Touch On: Always touch on when you board.
  • Touch Off: Always touch off when you leave (except on trams - more on that later).

The "Mobile myki" Hack

Forget fumbling for a plastic card at the bottom of your bag. If you have an Android phone or an iPhone, you can set up a Mobile myki in your digital wallet. It’s faster, easier, and means you’re ready to roll as long as your phone has battery.

Pro Tip: Register your myki online. If you lose your card or phone, your balance is protected. It’s a small admin task that saves you major tears later.
